Financial and Volunteer Support

Home & School Association Financial and Volunteer Support

The role of the Roanoke Catholic Home and School Association (HSA) is to support the school, teachers, staff, and the Catholic education of our children. We are truly blessed to have so many wonderful volunteers - parents, grandparents, friends, and alumni who graciously volunteer their time and energy to the HSA and the school.  Each family has a 15 hour minimum commitment to volunteer through HSA activities or school functions, including sports.  Support of annual activities like Catholic Schools Week are provided by HSA coordinated volunteers.  In addition, HSA Home Room Parents coordinate volunteers for classroom activities.  Teachers and volunteer leaders submit fund request for activities like field trips, retreats and competitions to be reviewed for funding.  Many valuable requests are granted.  Examples of financial support provided by HSA has included:

·   School Directory and “Note to School” pads for family use
·   Financial support for students to travel on field trips, retreats and to competitions
·   Library Programs - Accelerated Reader Point Awards
·   Back to School Festivities
·   Teacher start up money to help with classroom needs
·   Pins for "Serving Christ in One Another" award
·   Catholic Schools Week activities including student appreciation activities and teacher appreciation luncheon
·   Open House Activities
·   Mardi Gras Celebration
·   Monthly Parent Prayer Services
·   Science Fair prizes
·   Muffins for Mom
·   Doughnuts for Dad
·   Financial support for Prom and After Prom
·   Yearbook support
·   Scholarships for US & LS students based on academics, Christian values and beliefs, and participation in service or extracurricular activities
·   Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) support
·   Mustard Seed support
·   New Family Welcome and Back to School Parties

In order to provide enrichment programs and to support the education of our children, there is a financial component to the HSA. During the 2003-2004 school year, many parents expressed a desire to pay one fee rather than to participate in a fundraiser. The "Flat Fee" or dues option was very well received.  Many families chose to pay a $65.00 "Flat Fee" rather than participate in the Innisbrook Wraps fundraiser. A number of families continue to participate in the annual fundraiser, which is offered through the students and on-line each September. Families participating in the fundraiser are asked to sell a minimum of $130.00 in products to equal the $65.00 flat fee amount.  HSA receives fifty percent of the proceeds from these sales, the families choosing the fundraising option are able to generate $65.00 or more for the Association.  Why $65.00? This amount was chosen based on the number of families in our school and a review of HSA budgets over the last several years. In order to continue to support the programs, activities, and extra equipment that HSA has been able to provide, this number was chosen.  Thank you for being a part of the Roanoke Catholic Home and School Association and helping our school community.
